This is a personal one! And yes, it looks a little different from the rest. I had to paint this in order to get it out of my system. In the early ninety’s in the area in The Netherlands I grew up in a youngster used to work at a young age. It was expected of a young boy. Same as me. I started working, next to school, when I was around 10 years old. Always in the agriculture, because the area is surrounded by cabbage, potatoes and bulbs. At the age of 12 I dug up tulip bulbs 9 hours per day. Working hard made me less patient and that element is shown in my recent paintings. So yes, it is a very important painting for me which tells a part if the story why I am the artist and man I am today. It is a key painting.
